COLOR Your World!
by Kenneth Ross Hooper

With today's large homes and open floor plans, the question I am most often asked is how to use color in a house that has an open floor plan and one color would be to much. If you know how to look at a space from a designer’s viewpoint, you will see that there are natural “starting and stopping points” even though it is an open floorplan. In most cases there are perfect walls to use as accent walls of color. Selecting a wall with a fireplace or built-ins OR selecting two walls to lead your eye into the room is often a way to use color to define the space. For instance, in an area that is a nook for reading or gathering for a meal, you can use a darker color to define the space or even a soothing color tone might be appropriate. Another option for defining space is to paint the back panel sections of a major built-in such as a bookcase. not only will it help ton define space, the color can show off the trim work and help to give a backdrop to accessories displayed. Lastly, for those who really want to exclaim their style, one of my favorite methods of defining an open space is to use a combination of paint, wallpaper and faux-finishes working together in harmony throughout the room.

One of our design professionals would be happy to come to your home and give you a color analysis. We are offering a special rate of 1/2 off for our color analysis service only through the month of September so be sure to act quickly.
